History

Kleeberg was established in Munich by the public accountant/tax consultant Dr Rudolf Kleeberg in October 1966. Initially, only a few employees worked at the offices in Widenmayerstrasse. However, the rapid growth of the office made it necessary for Kleeberg to relocate to Theresienstrasse in 1978 and to have responsibility shared instead of this resting on one pair of shoulders. On 1 January 1979 Mr Hartl, Mr Hosak and Mr Wieninger joined the firm existing at that time for this reason. On the date when Kleeberg moved, the company had 25 employees including the partners with the number of our clients continually rising.

We have been at our current location in Augustenstrasse 10 since 1990. In 1995 the partnership was integrated into a limited liability company (GmbH). But our loyalty to Augustenstrasse certainly does not mean that Kleeberg has not continued to grow. On the contrary, our office space has increased as the number of our staff has grown.

Kleeberg has adapted to the dynamic developments in the field of accounting and auditing which entailed a change in the profile required of an audit and accountancy company. For example, a separate law firm has belonged to our company since 2006 which provides legal support to our clients in the relevant fields of law. In 2007, the area of advisory was added in which we have pooled advisory services in key strategic and operating issues. This expansion is part and parcel of our strategy which aims to ensure the long-term advancement of our company. At the time Kleeberg has more than 90 employees including its shareholders.

Our philosophy of providing comprehensive and international client care includes professional networking to support our highly qualified advisory services. Hence, we have maintained international cooperations with "The Leading Edge Alliance" since 2005.

Kleeberg changed its appearance first time in 2007. Our fresh corporate design was contributing to presenting Kleeberg as a competent and modern company. With a new logo, a revised homepage and a comprehensive newsletter concept - to give just a few examples - we are communicating our philosophy of client care and our corporate identity as a reliable partner so that it is clear for all to see. The host of our professional publications also bears witness to our academic approach on the basis of which we clarify complex issues and also provide our reliable auditing and advisory services.

Kleeberg continues to grow: The company’s success story is reflected in the dynamic growth of its employee figures. In 2011 more than 120 employees worked in the interests of our clients. Our continual growth goes hand in hand with our clients’ dynamic development. At the beginning of 2011, Kleeberg’s management team was complemented by four new managing directors, Kai Peter Künkele, Stefan Prechtl, Jürgen Schmidt and Dr. Christian Zwirner, from whom our clients can expect the customary competent service.

The opening of our Hamburg branch at the beginning of 2012 is also another step forward for Kleeberg: Our presence in the Hanseatic city allows us to optimally serve our growing client base in the region and assures our continued development and growth. In the process, integrity, quality, highly personal and individualised support and attentiveness to the needs of clients remain our hallmarks.

Kleeberg has been a member of Crowe Global, a worldwide network of independent auditing and advisory companies, since 2012. Crowe Global belongs to the ten largest advisory networks worldwide and has over 200 independent member firms in more than 130 countries. This makes us a reliable contact for foreign companies wishing to clarify issues in Germany. At the same time we can offer our German clients comprehensive advisory services around the globe in all areas of practice.

Since 01.12.2014 we have been reflecting our membership in Crowe Global also through a change in our image: As of now Kleeberg is documenting its network affiliation presenting itself in the colours of orange and blue. However, the new colours do nothing to change what Kleeberg is and what defines Kleeberg as a competent and reliable partner on any issue involving our areas of practice. We adhere to our principle that responsibility cannot be delegated arbitrarily – integrity, quality and highly personal support remain our hallmarks.

In July 2015 Kleeberg founded a new subsidiary: Crowe Kleeberg Real Estate GmbH which is now Kleeberg’s own real estate unit. Crowe Kleeberg Real Estate is a reliable and competent partner for all tax-related, legal and business matters involved in real estate. Our highly qualified employees develop concepts and solutions for the entire range of clients in the real estate industry – from asset managers and private equity investors, property funds and institutional investors right through to family offices, high net-worth individuals and other portfolio holders.

In April 2017 Kleeberg set up the subsidiary Crowe Kleeberg IT Audit GmbH and is thus continuing to expand its “IT Audit” business segment. With our IT experts we are in an even better position to support our clients on their way to digitalisation and to head for the Internet of Things, the smart factory or their value creation network with them. We provide the required legal certainty to our clients for the development of innovative business processes and thus strengthen the areas of governance, risk and compliance.
